i redesigned my site. whatcha guys think
sure could use some advice on how to make those menu boxes more trendy

First impression is that it looks good, but the headings in the lefthand navigation bars is hard to read (grey on black).

about headings, i thought of putting some images there (similar to buttons) which will stand for selected category.
i will change to white for now, but do you maybe know a good resource where i can see how to make such buttons..

If by "trendy" you mean more of the web 2.0 look, here's a list of a LOT of tutorials that might help you out:

I agree that the sidebar is a little hard to read--the contrast between black and blue is pretty poor (that shade of blue at least). Otherwise there's not a lot to critique, the design is pretty plain (not necessarily a bad thing, but not a lot to talk about).

some people told me that a good way to learn photoshop, is to try and make same website like someone else did. is that a good idea?
