my debut as a web designer

This is my first site and class project. It is a fluid three column css layout. shows fine in IE but firefox separates the columns a little. any comments or criticisms are welcome. I am a newbie so if you criticize please include a remedy. thanks all...

pretty good, cool colors, reminds me of the days of Amstrad gaming in the late 80's!

To start, I'm glad you're utilizing CSS for layout. It's nice to see people avoiding tables more and more. However, this is really the only positive I can point out.

First, the green is way too strenuous on the eyes. You should go for 3 to 4 colors that go well together and allow the eyes to relax and enjoy viewing the page and reading the content.

Second, all your images are very pixelated because you've specified heights and widths in your html and css that are not the sizes of your images. When you do that, you transform the images to a pixelated mess. If you create an image that is 200 x 100 pixels, when you specify the width and height in your html and css, it better be a width of 200px and height of 100px. If you want your image smaller or bigger, make it smaller or bigger with your graphics program. And never specify a width of an image as 100%. Again, this distorts your image severely. If you want to have a fluid image, you make an image that can be repeated. Or you have one image fixed with a background image repeating behind it.

Third, you've made a great attempt at a three-column layout, but I think you should really review these sites: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/holygrail and http://www.positioniseverything.net/...olcomplex.html.

Last, you really need to check your site for errors. This will help fix layout issues. Also, on every page but your home page, you forgot to close your div tag for "topsection".

Ditto what The Shaner said, plus the menu was confusing because the links jumped around depending on what page you are on. "Home" should always be in the same place, as should "Sites", etc.

I second everything said before and for inspiration on color schemes I can recommend http://colourlovers.com
Also, your heder graphic is way too big in terms of file size. While most people have DSL in these days it’s still a good rule of thumb to keep images below 50KB (except you are actually displaying high resolution images for a good reason (i.e. image gallery)).

Kind of boring design, add some CSS to the links, and put more creativity into it.

I see you have changed your site.

It is looking much better then the original!

There is a display issue in Firefox. your main text is overlapping your header that says the date/time.

Like koss said, it is a little boring but this is a big improvement from your earlier design so your going in the right direction... keep it up!

the border on the right image of the header goes 1-2 pixels below the left image in FF. Also the lettering in right header could be a little sharper.
I completely agree with the static menu across the whole website. Also ive found if you really want green letters, you need a darker background.
