Please review nrityalaya

Hi friends,

Please have a look at nrityalaya.
I've used some PNGs and some absolute positions, so I'm not sure about the layout/appearance at your end.

PS: To get a click from main area of home page and from the header of other pages, I've enclosed a <div> inside <a>. I hope you and w3 will forgive me.

Regards,
art.

Decent design.

just a few things i would take into consideration:

1- the top of the home page has "html>" displayed.

2-The navigation is a bit busy in my opinion. It is hard to read with all the black "vines" in the background.

3-The home page is more of a splash page with a navigation then anything else. I would consider adding "about" or "who are we" stuff like that to the home page. If the intent was for it to act as a splash page then remove the navigation, however i do not see the need for a splash page in this situation.

4-Clicking the header, send u back to the home page witch has no content... not much point to this.

Thanks for the quick reply.
#1. It was a mistake due misplaced script-close.
#4. Now the click will point to the second page instead of home.

The current home page is kept as neither a splash nor a normal page, but a hybrid. In spite of the frequent request from us to place some content in the home page, they insisted to keep like this. And they don't want the "SKIP" in the home page. So the net result is to place the navigation in the front page also.

Interesting. I like it, a lot actually.

Here are my suggestions:

1.) I almost always regard splash pages as a waste because they are used unnecessarily. However, I think this site is an exception. This is an ideal site to use a splash page and I HIGHLY recommend it. A lot of times I come across sites like church sites that use a splash page and I think to myself "whats the point", its a church site that will obviously have stuff about the church, etc., etc. However in your case its different. Why? because when I first looked at your site and I saw this wonderfully unique drawing with the word "NRITYALAYA", I was really unsure what to expect. I was then intrigued to see more. My suggestion would be to have a splash page but drop the left had navigation menu. It makes the page feel unbalanced and it takes away from your centerpiece (the dancer).

2.) Upgrade your photo gallery. Try out this free photo gallery here http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/. You can also view how I implemented it on my page here http://harvestwhitecounty.com/main_gallery_pad.php . It allows you to have nice portfolios with captions that are professional and best of all its FREE.

3.) In your navigation menu you have "Courses Offered" when I click this link the page mentions some new art forms Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kuchipudi, and Carnatic music. I was interested in what these were but you had no info on them. I shouldn't have to google info to find out about stuff on your site (it should already be there). I suggest putting some sub link in your menu under "Courses Offered" for each of those art forms and tell a little more about them. DON'T add it to that page its already way too big and people would be less likely to read it.

4.) Your menu, the only thing that bothers me is the colors of the sub links under "The Dancing Duo", the gray background is out of place. Change the gray to the background color of your content areas (the orange-tan color).

5.) loose the navigation menu on the home page. it looks good on all the other pages just odd on the home page.

Thank you very much for this detailed reply.

#1) I'll think about removing navigation from home page after discussing with the client.
#2) It already uses lightbox, the scripts might not loaded well to see you.
#3) For the time being, I've given links to wiki
#4) Changed to a black having 0.75 opacity.
