Wanted: volunteers for scientific project.

Hi,

I hope this is the right spot to post my message. If not, my apologies!

This post is about ANEVA, a neuropsychological scientific tool used to analyse large sets of data extracted out of hardcore neuropsychological literature. As such it is not yet operational, but is currently being developed by three individuals, all experienced in their specific fields.

And what are these fields, you wonder? Well, neuropsychology of course (that is experiments using fMRI, Single Unit recordings, …), data mining (to extract meaningful information out of the massive amount of data) and IT (more specifically PHP and MySQL to store and query the data). The combination of these fields with our specific questions are brand new/shiny questions that raises some serious questions about the fundamentals of neuropsychology, its conclusions and future experimental setups.

What is in for an IT guru? We need some volunteers to help out our current IT guy, since we need some good scripting to make ‘forms’ to upload and query the database. It’s more or less standard PHP/MySQL scripting.
BUT, there are more challenging things to it. Most definitely if we move the easy uploading part to some serious and high level queries (in collaboration with the data mining guy). So those who wish to be involved in a real live meaningful scientific project are most welcome to share his/her knowledge with us. Volunteers that is, funding is always an issue with beginning projects.

But who are already involved? The team consists of a postdoc of WEKA (the open source data mining software, highly respected in the data mining world), a freelance PHP scripter, two neuropsychologists (junior lecturer and PhD student, both from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand).

What hardware will do the job? We have one dedicated server, and two shared ones. We run PHP, MySQL and have an activecollab up and running. Of course we will make use of the WEKA soft. So basically, hardware shouldn’t be a problem.

To sum it up: we need some volunteers for the PHP scripting part (for uploading the data to the MySQL database) and volunteers to start scripting the data mining queries (in collab with WEKA, most likely AFTER the upload scripts are written). Anyone interested in this project or anyone having questions on the project, please reply or send me an email.

ThinkMedical has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I am also interested, though i cannot guarantee anything, i would be willing to take a look at the project and discuss what exactly you need help with etc.

You can find my contact information at: http://www.softnepenthe.com

I'm currently in the process of rewriting the site, and compiling a half-forgotten list of clients for a portfolio.
