digital camera video

I have a Samsung Digimax 500 digital camera that takes video with sound...when I copy the files and then play them in like Windows Media Player, the sound doesn't play.

Does anyone have experience with this type of camera or another with this type of situation?

I seem to recall a semiliar problem with my cam....But I'm not totally sure, a long time ago. What's the output format that your camera creates?

Ow okay..Then it isn't the same as mine..have you tried to play them in another player? Or maybe export them into some video editing program and then try to render them using another format?

no I haven't - I have no clue how to do any of that and I've already moved the files from the camera to my computer - does that mean I've lost the sound now?

You don't have the proper codecs to hear the sound. The sound should still be on the computer. Try installing the basic pack found here.
http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Co...k_download.htm

If that doesn't work look into VLC Player.

From results of a search it seems you need the ac3 filter.

video compression

is there a recommended tutorial on video compression? or a recommended software?

I've been uploading these videos to youtube which is fine but they have a 100mb limit - a 2-min video from my camera is 150mb

or am I just stuck with it that way and I'll have to get a better camera? (I already have my eye on a real video camera )

Convert them to flash video first.

File size should be under the minimum and they will be uploaded faster because youtube doesn't have to convert them.

If you have Flash CS3 or Flash 8 it comes with a Video Encoder which you should use, if not then there are a few free alternatives.

One of my personal favorites because its simple to use is the Riva FLV 2.0 Encoder: http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?encoder&L=3 (download link on that same page about half way down).

Another alternative is SUPER which is also free, just a little harder to use. It can convert to a number of other video formats as well.

Also in the future if you plan on putting a video on you tube, change the recording resolution to 320 x 240 because I believe thats what youtube uses. Could be 640 x 480.

You're correct in your first assumption. (320 x 240)

It could be worse...you could have left Vegas without your camcorder.
