Very wierd problem with sound in IE and Firefox

Ok, I have a very specific problem related to using sound files on my website.

I have been using the following code to run several small sized versions of Windows Media Player on the page.

This worked great in Internet Explorer, but for some reason not in Firefox, where whenever I loaded the page it always asked for new plugins and then couldnt find them or use them.

Im sure that there would be a way around this by messing with the preferences in Firefox, but I dont want my visitors to have to do this, because they will probably just quit and leave.

Does anybody know a way to make this work in both IE and Firefox, without messing around with extra plugins?

I did find this piece of code, which actually does work in both browsers without even mentioning searching for extra plugins :

As I said, this wrks fine in both IE and Firefox - the problem is, that it autostarts when I load the page, which is not what I want. What is very wierd is that this only happens in IE, not in Firefox. I have tried sticking in an "autostart=false" but that doesnt do any good. Does anybody know why this happens? Is it to do with the CLSID? Is there any way to stop it?

Do you have a link to your page? Firefox should handle that code just fine if you have the plugins installed. Perhaps its just your browser. Personally I recommend a flash mp3 player over the windows media player mainly because flash is more compatible with more OS's and browsers. http://www.*******************/?item=Flash+Mp3+Player

You are using an older class id though. I suggest reading the sticky in this forum. Look for the codes that have the class id that begin with a 6.

Thanks for your quick reply.

When you say that "Firefox should handle that code just fine if you have the plugins installed", which one of the two codes were you referring to?

The first one wont play in Firefox, it requests a plugin, but then it cant find the necessary one.

The second code plays just fine in Firefox, but in IE it autostarts when I dont want it to.

The perfect solution would be a simple fix to stop the second piece of code from autostarting in IE.

I have looked through the thread which is stickied at the top of the forum, but I am a complete beginner at this, so I really dont know what Im looking for in terms of chunks of code which might work, or different class id numbers.

I would be reeeaaaalllllly grateful if you could come up with something which might make the second chunk of code stop autoplaying in IE, or, failing that, something which might make the first one play in Firefox without the eternal search for plugins.

As regards Flash, I have tried using it, but it doesnt work from where I am. I am way out of the way in a 3rd world country which has serious internet restriction issues, and for some reason Flash simply wont play here, I have tried and tried. This site is for my language students, and the audio is an integral part of their course, so unfortunately Flash will be no good for them.

Anyway, Im very appreciative of all help.

Both codes should work. As I said already we need to see a link to your page. It could be just your system.
