I have a form

</form>

How do I get either the name or id from the form in PHP ?

Just use name="jim" id="jim" in the submit button then you can do something like
PHP Code:
if(isset($_POST['jim'])) { //do something } 
If jim is posted to the server then you will know that the submitted form was jim. Keep things simple.
