White space at the top

I have white space at the top of my home page. I have not that much &nbsp on my page and do not believe it is the problem. I am thinking that possibly it could be caused by Javascript, but I don't know. I am using Smarty. Here is the index.tpl

From the code you provided I can’t see any whitespace. However, I don’t see any reference to a JavaScript and it’s impossible to help you this way. It would be best if you provided a link to an online example so we can actually see what’s wrong.

What I can tell you… well, you probably don’t care at all as I don’t expect a website with such a subject to be properly coded according to standards and accessibility guidelines but I feel that it’s my civic duty to inform you that tables are not meant to be used for a page layout and you are missing a document type declaration at the very top of your document. I strongly encourage you to use semantic HTML for the structure and CSS to style your page.

Edit: OK, a short search for the description text in your meta tag brought be to a site called russ!answ337z dot us (encrypted so SEs won’t pick it up - geeks will know what to do ) and it appears to be the site you are talking about. And it also appears (or is pretty obvious actually) that you have three empty paragraphs at the very top even before the HTML that don’t belong there. Try to remove them an see what happens.

Here you are trying to eliminate the default margins for the body element. But topmargin, leftmargin, and rightmargin are proprietary body element attributes introduced by Internet Explorer.

Netscape instead used marginheight and marginwidth which are still understood by Firefox.

Fortunately, you can now remove those attributes and just use styles:
