Question .htaccess redirect according to user?

Hey there,

I was wondering if there is a way to make your .htaccess password protection send users to a specific page according to their username/password.

I have a directory that I need protected, but I want users to get a different default page according to their login type.

If htacess isn't what I'm looking for, can someone suggest an alternative?

Thanks,

Set a cookie when processing the login and reference that as your page loads - you could then redirect, or print out different content, as required.

Any idea how I would do that? I'm not familiar with cookies.

Does anyone know how to do this, or have a link to somewhere that could teach me how?

I still haven't been able to find it on Google, as I'm really not even sure what I'd search for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
