The system shows the Windows 98 screen continously.

But it hasn't hanged.all keyboard numlock are working, i can see the windows 98 screen running without any disturbance.
then what will be the problem?
I have botted in dos mode for running scandisk. no problem found.
but in windows mode, it shows the windows 98 screen continously.

Roy Sinclair will become famous soon enough
Press the "Esc" key to see what's going on under the spash screen (sounds like you've got a "PAUSE" or some DOS program asking a question).

You said you'd just reformatted? is it not possible to simply do that again? I know it's not the most helpful response but presumably there's not alot of data on there if it was only going for 20 minutes...

solution

thanx for all your help.
I have just booted with win98 startup disk, edited autoexec.bat
in dos mode and found that the OS loading is getting paused becasue of Mcfee virus memory scanning.

removed this memory scanning in autoexec.bat and saved.
Thats' it.

suriya.
