MCs Defined in an Array?

I have a lot of movie clip symbols that I want to move around with ActionScript. I will use functions to move these many times in different directions, and I don't want to retype the code to move all the MCs for each direction. So is there a way to define the affected MCs in an array and just move everything in the array? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions? (I can't convert them all to one symbol because I will be using hitTests on each of them to check for collisions with a different MC.)
