Network proxy

i am having a problem with my home network, i am running two machines one running under windows XP professional and one running under win 98 SE. The XP machine is connected to the internet via an ADSL connection, and is networked to the 98 SE machine. The problem is this,

When i type an address to browse the web on the 98 machine the page does not load, however i am able to play games and use msn messenger, icq etc using this machine. If someone sends me a link to a website however and i click it, it works fine. Strange.

Any help?

Thanks.

Sounds like a browser configuration problem...

I would consider reinstalling.

That's pretty weird...

What browser?

What I would consider doing is having a look in the Internet explorer settings, click on tools, Internet options from within IE and then click on the connections tab.

From their click on LAN settings and then put on Automatically detect settings” and also make sure there is no proxy setup in there either.

Also, how did you network the systems, did you use the windows xp wizard or did you bind the tcp/ip protocol?
