Thumbs down slow BitTorrent download speeds on new broadband provider

Hi All,

I have been offline at home for a few weeks due to my broadband provider here in Scotland going bust (V21).

I am now connected with Tiscali and can browse the net ok, however, I have noticed that the speed of my BitTorrent downloads from the Linux Fedora site have been REALLY slow. Currently a download is sitting at 8Kb/s. I have a 2.2MB connection.

Is this something that many clear up in a few days or so, it's just I never had this problem at all with V21.

Thanks,
Picco

Well, how much are you uploading, like at what speed?

Have you tried any other torrents? Maybe that one just doesn't have any fast seeders on it.

hi OracleGuy,

I have been looking on the net for others experiancing this problem and came across this link:
http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t19297-3.html

I am using Azureus at the moment, i have a running example of a torrent at present:

Total Size: 102.3MB
Download Speed: 9.8Kb/s
Seeds: 39 Connected (602 in swarm)
Peers: 3 connected (161 in swarm)
Upload Speed: 0 Kb/s

=================================================

This is after I have set the TCP Port to use 443 and set the encryption to : 'Require encryption transport' and the minimum encryption level to: 'Plain'.

Any ideas of a solution to this? Am i missing something in the settings? Or is this now not possible when using Tiscali UK as your provider?

Why is the Upload Speed at 0Kb/s as well? Strange!

oh, i meant to mention....my broadband provider is Tiscali here in the UK.

I know there are other UK users of this site and thought that some of you may have experiance of using Tiscali as your ISP or indeed still use them.

Also, this thread is being discussed, hopefully still @:

No resolution yet, this seems a sticky one. Possibly Tiscali have stopped a workaround???? Help appreciated.

Well requiring encryption is going to limit who you can connect to since if a seeder isn't capable of the encryption, it can't connect.

As for the upload, does Azureus say that the NAT is OK down at the bottom in the status bar? Have you forwarded the TCP port you are using for BT on your router to that computer?

According to this list of "bad" ISPs, Tiscali limits torrent bandwidth.
