where to start..

hey hows it going guys. new to the forum but will probably be around for a while. the dillema i have is this; i have for some time been designing simple sites. ones based purely on graphics/html. no php, asp, java, etc. it goes without saying that obviouslly im very limited - but i am lost as to where to start in learning about scripting beyond plain html. i need like a beginners guide to scripting or something.. any ideas?

thx in advance.

for instance. www.bluefishwebsitedesign.com my baby in the making. i want to put in a members section. in order to do so securely, im not sure if i need to apply ASP or PHP. not even sure exactly how those work. no idea how a database works. i want to be able to update websites through a form, kind of like that NewPro or NewsPHP or w/e. things like that..
