Ruby On Rails is like PHP, for storing strings, numbers in databases, or for including several pages into one page, or a hundred different uses.
I'm pretty certain Twitter uses RoR for its search engine, if I'm not mistaken.
If your goal with the Ruby on Rails Tutorial is to put up a simple website one time, then it is a really good tool. I also learned how to use GitHub, Heroku, and some RSPec via the tutorial, which is really useful. However, if you’re in my position, and would actually like to learn a lot more about Ruby on Rails, like what it is and how it really works, consider other options (although there are very few other options available).
