I'm a CF developer with 9 years of experience (from the Allaire CF4 days as well!)

And yes, IMO you can do a lot more, with much less effort in ColdFusion than can be done in php. Unfortunately, I think its cost and somewhat limited ability to be placed on hosting servers limits its popularity.

Hello,

I need a CF coder.
Here's my issue:

We have have a co-location client with an ecommerce site on their server.

They had a server configured with Windows Server 2000, SQL Server 2000 and Cold Fusion Server 5 for 6-7 years. Recently we began having trouble with it.

It’s having periods where it reboots, where CF restarts, etc.

We have ruled out hardware issues. Cloned it to a different box and the problem went with it.

As part of the remedy, we’ve upgraded/updated their server. We were going to do a new install of every piece of software and as such it was decided to go with all updated versions. The new server now has Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Cold Fusion Server 2008. Until the new server is ready to go live, the old server (which still has problems) is the server where the website is live.

The web files have been copied over.

IIS has been set up (the main site as well as the secured site for checkout).

The SQL databases as well as users and logins have been copied over.

The ODBC connections in Cold Fusion have been configured.

The custom tags in Cold Fusion have been configured.

We are currently getting an error when we click on any of their product categories. The exact same web files work on the server with the older software.

HTTPReferrer:

Template

/category.cfm

QueryString

Category=1362

Diagnostics

Unable to load library null

The error occured on line 26

It was suggested to me in another forum that I run the Code Analyzer. I did so and it did reveal problems, but I am not a coder so remedying them is beyond me. I would also be glad to get the old server to behave, if that would allow more time to sort out the code issues on the new server. In any event, I need to get a stable site for the customer.

Are you available for hire for this kind of project and, if so, can you provide me with references and rates?

Thanks,
Katie

Turns out the client purchased a newer copy of CF Webstore last year and wasn't able to install it on their server that had CF 5 at the time. We're gonna try installing that and see how it goes... Should replace all the code, I hope.

This is perhaps my favorite CMS powered website, and I have to mention it's powered by CF (no not Coding Forums lol). Not only did I visit it a hell of a lot when I played sim city, but it's a reminder to me of the possibilities of the web.You would be better off searching this forum or Goggling "cold fusion vs. php". There are a lot of threads on this topic, both environments have their pro's and con's and both sides have their fanatics....http://www.free-bingo-site.net
