Magento Installation

Good Day to all!

Has anyone among you here had already tried magento?

I had been having hard time installing it, and it's confusing since there are three (zipped) files to download, and I'm uncertain to which one should I choose, or possibly all of them.

If someone already had success installing it, please share your thoughts.

first is a downloader, second is magento and last some data. This if I understand what is there because I didn't try yet.

you could try to get it from svn:

somebody ask me to test it because come with the hosting package but that will be later.

Yes, I've downloaded the three already, but it seemed so easy, should'nt we have to configure something on DB?

Also, when I tried to install, only the downloader and the sample data was extracted the other one did'nt.

I'm uncertain what to do with SVN, what should I do with it?

I don't know must be some documents somwhere.

svn is a control version system, called subversion. You must have a svn client and use it to download the latest source from the server. After first download you only need to update the source tree with the new code any time they change the source and of course you want, .

We are on the same path, but I'm on the road to do it now, but if there's no luck, I'll wait for you on how you do it next week.

...but hopefully, I should be able to do it (I'm stumped 3 days already).

Yay! All is working fine now.

Ensure that the directores' permission is set to 755 and file permission is 644 (chmod).

Thanks for your assistance oexsyl, it's much appreciated.

Also, magento uses chmod 755 and PHP 5, which some hosting companies does'nt allowed.

thank you, is good to know but not a problem in my case.

probably is premature and don't have a impression yet but I'm interested in a opinion about how it work, how easy, problems and so on, so we keep in touch,

Hahaha, and the first problem after the installation is that it does'nt let me do it in an SSL.

I hope to solve this too, with the aide of the hosting support.
