Using online video in my own player

Is it possible to use a video from another site in your own player? For example, say youtube or megavideo. Can you take their video source and put it in your own player, or do you need to upload the video on your own server?

You can link to the files from any site IF they provide you with the necessary permissions, and a valid crossdomain.xml file. The problem is usually finding the direct link to these videos, as they do well at hiding them or masking them through scripts.

I see. What do I need to try to test if it will work or not?

Search for JW FLV Player, and use this player. There are some help posts on the site with information about playing Youtube videos and so on. I would post the link, but it seems CF won't let me.
