Python for Game Development?

OK...

I've decided to learn Python to develop games...

Can Python be used to code entire games such as the Final Fantasy and Metroid series?

From what I have learned, python is a good language to learn to program in. But as for games after you know the basics I think that c++ is supposed to be the best.
