I am new to making websites for people and charging. I have experience in HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, XHTML, XML, and some more. I need some advice on getting started.

That's a fairly vague question. I think the best response I can give is try to figure out what you like to do first because you're really going to be able to excel at something that you love to do.

If you like graphics and design, then I'd stick more on the HTML / CSS aspect.

If you like logic, algorithms and the like, then PHP, MySQL and JavaScript may be up your alley.

Please feel free to follow up with more specific questions.

Thanks

zedek, if your in need of clients i would try scriptlance, elance etc etc or build some websites at a discount if you can tag them at the bottom i.e. designed by zedek.

i think their are a lot of business websites that are dated that could be brought up to w3c standards - but these business need educating first. plus i would offer the full package - design, seo, hosting, email, ad consultancy etc.

I disagree. Offer only what you know and are good at. There are a lot of people out there that claim to be "SEO experts" but in reality have no idea what it is. Marketing and SEO require just as much knowledge as Web Design and Programming. If you have resources to tap / contract with, then yes offer those services. If your a "one man show", then I'd offer services that you're good at only.
