Flash Newbie: How do I select an image in a lower layer?

I must be God's dumbest creature.

The tutorial has 3 cars fading in/out. Car1 in View1 is covered by Car2 in View2. Aside from moving View1 up in the stack, I can't select Car1. Every time I try I get Car2.

if you are using flash MX you may have to open the library to do this u can click anywhere in side flash mx and press ctrl + L as long as u have an active document open or u can also to the windows menu in flash MX and bring up the library there it should appear on the right side of the screen, there should see all of the movie clips, buttons and what not that belong to that flash document, and u should be able to select individual graphics

That brings up the item itself to be edited. I'm trying to select the place holder (for lack of better words) on the Car Animation itself to Alpha tween it.

I figured out I can lock the upper layers to get to it also. Seeing I can't even make it through the Tutorial quickly, I'm pretty sure my animations aren't going to be that complicated anyway.

Thanks, but I'll just live with it.
