Configuring Apache 2.0.49

Hi, anyone familiar with configuring the apache HTTP web server? I'm using it solely for testing/devlopment on a winXP professional desktop. I've got it pretty much working, HTML pages are served, as are SSI's, no problem, out of the specfieid directory. I've added the .bat handler and amended the scriptalias file path to my cgi folder, I've also include Allow from all and ExecCGI in (what I think are) all the appropriate <directory> tags, but still when I try to load a .bat file in the browser I get a 'Page cannot be located' error doc. Surely I should get a download/save as box, or at the least, the msdos window should flash up indicating that the script has executed?

Anyone got any advice?
