Couple of css Issues

Hey, I have a problem with my menu image Here

As you can see, the menu images dont cover the text items in the menu too well. Really, I need them to be slightly higher. I am using the same image for all links, changing them with css. If I provide an image with a a larger height, there is no effect. I have tried adding padding to them, but it causes them to jump when you hover over them. The image can be seen Here

My plan is to get the text sit nicely in the image without any tilt applied to the text.

Any advise appreciated.
