Collaboration (designer + coder)

Hi

We are two coders with different skills that would like to collaborate on web projects.
I am good at back-end (php, mysql etc.), and he is good at design.
He uses dreamweaver, and I really don't care what I use, as long as it has some sort of code-detection etc.

But are there any preferred tools for this kind of collaboration?
Or any guides on how we can work on the same project at the same time without getting in each others way?

Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.

it sounds like you're going to be working on different files anyway.

Notepad++ is free and alerts you whenever an opened file is modified under you.

Only the server code need be run from the same place for both of you. you can easily inject your own CSS and JS using userScripts and userStyles extensions for your browser.
That will let you mangle the code off-site.


in general, go ahead and make a backup folder and dump zipped folders there often, or use GIT to make revisions in case one day there is a conflict.

I use Notepad++ for coding now, and I like it very much.

And yes, we will be working on different files a lot, all the classes will be in *.class.php files, and so on.
But I was wondering if anyone have had any experience working this way?
How do you prefer to inject your code into his design? Should I teach him a little Smarty? or are there any other ways of doing this?
