Dude, how about you put that exact question in any search engine’s search field and wait for a million results to appear within a second for an answer and not waste the time of other members with such basic questions?

Hi,

Do I have to learn Ruby before venturing Ruby on Rails?

I'm an ASP developer and practicing the MVC framework of it. Will it take me time to get the grip of Ruby on Rails?

cheers,
imperialx

Ruby on Rails is a Model-View-Controller framework for creating database-driven websites in Ruby.

What's the point of having a forum if everyone should get their answers from Google?

Ruby On Rails is like PHP, for storing strings, numbers in databases, or for including several pages into one page, or a hundred different uses.

I'm pretty certain Twitter uses RoR for its search engine, if I'm not mistaken.

You are correct. I recently read a blog post somewhere (HackerNews maybe?) on how and why it was used. Maybe I could find it again and post it.

If your goal with the Ruby on Rails Tutorial is to put up a simple website one time, then it is a really good tool. I also learned how to use GitHub, Heroku, and some RSPec via the tutorial, which is really useful. However, if you’re in my position, and would actually like to learn a lot more about Ruby on Rails, like what it is and how it really works, consider other options (although there are very few other options available).
