SimpleXML messing with my data

The string that goes in contains • but comes out as •
‚ comes out as ‚
How can I stop this happening? Alternatively, is there any way to get • back to •?

I have no control over the data, its from an external source.

Dormilich is on a distinguished road
it’s probably an encoding issue. check that all your code (including the connections (to the DB)) use the same encoding (looks like UTF-8)
