Good cheap laptop processors

I'm wanting to buy my mum a new laptop for christmas but I'm not sure which one. Im looking to spend around £200-£400. I'm just wondering what processor I should be looking for in that kinda price range.

Any advice/recommendations welcome .

You might want to look at a tablet instead of a laptop in that case. But to answer your question for a processor, an i3 or i5 will work perfectly fine. You could even get by with an Atom if anyone is still putting those in laptops.

Help needed! i need a new laptop, but everytime i decide on one, someone pops up and says 'don't get that, get this!' My heart says a macbook pro 15inch but my head says 'stupid money'. Ditto Sony VAIO - people keep telling me they break...and so on. Right, I am a full time self-employed author, don't do any gaming, mostly work on word docs - i produce tens of thousands of words, obviously - and the only other thing I do is take holiday snaps and keep an iTunes library. i have just had a very bad experience with a new dell - got my money back, after a big fight, and have no other allegiance. Someone in the know - Dan? - please put me out of my misery, as I'm currently working at my tiny netbook, which is driving me mad.... Thanks!!

It's sounds good that you want to give laptop to your mom. You can buy processor 2 or 3, they both are good.

Hey Robenhud, well you can't go wrong with an ASUS Notebook, something like the X71 series. I've had my ASUS for years now and it hasn't given a single problem.

As much as I would like to say Macbook Pro 15inch. Don't waste your cash when you can get something equally reliable for half the price. I use a Mac at work and my laptop at home. My faithful laptop still outperforms the Macbook even with it's 2 year age difference.
