ul adding unwanted div/bg??

hi,

I have added a ul and it seams to have added a bg or div or something (i havent seen this before) but when i <!----> the ul, it disappears but i dont now whats causing this as the ul is 200px wide but the backgrounds thats showing is 100% wide
