Computer Security Question

Hey guys,

I come to this community as its already a trusted source for me.

Im looking for some direction on where I can turn for security related question. In previous posts I've alluded to the fact that I'm trying to self teach myself a lot about this world of computers and my interest is steering in the direction of security.

Is there any good forums/places to go where this is the topic of discussion?

I just finished a re-build on a site that got hacked and due to my own lack of defenses got a few viruses. I downloaded McAfee trial to clean things up but I have a sneaking suspicion something is still wrong. My primary reason for thinking this is my HDD going crazy at night when the computer is in sleep mode and also random little things like "smart suggestor" just being installed on firefox without my ability to remove.

Any idea's/suggestions?

Thanks,

B

You can discuss it right here.

Don't waste your money on McAfee, I would recommend you use Microsoft Security Essentials instead. It is free and is much less bothersome than McAfee.

If the computer is truely in sleep mode the hard drive shouldn't be doing anything. Either the computer isn't really asleep or it is something else. Are you sure it isn't normally scheduled tasks causing the hard disk activity? E.g. a scheduled virus scan or defragmenter running. Those things tend to be auto scheduled for the early morning hours.
