Is there an 'Arrow' (up/down) character?

I need an arrow, but it must be text not a picture.


I think windings font might have one but I don't know if other Internet users would see that font or not..

What should I do?

I'm looking for an HTML or ASCII character which is a triangle pointing up or down so that I can use it as a toggle switch.

I found ↑ (&uarr, and ↓ (&darr - but those have an arrow stem. I'm looking just for the HTML arrow "head".
