Halo bosses.
Am 19 and from Nigeria, a young boi with great dreams and aspiration. I ventured into the internet through surfing for games on mobile. I graduated from secondary school 2009. I've got a great interest in Computer Related Stuffs. I've done a few WAPSITES designs, learned photoshop a little. But at the moment, am thinking of taking web designing as a career. Am faced with a few circumstances; in this part of the country, computer education is kinda poor, the average ones are extremely expensive. I have a little knowledge of; html, xhtml, javascript and php. I wana work for myself, design excellent and user friendly sites. Am kinda confuse cos finance isnt sufficient to pursue my dreams to the fullest. Please i need your advice on what to do.
Thanks in advance.
Web design is in demand however there are plenty of companys and "one mand bands" offering this service, If you are highly interested in working for a company then you need to focus on become amazing at one area, wether it be graphics, or a certain type of coding.
If you want to work for your self its about marketing your self, This is not easy as there are millions of competition specially on the net (including this forum) as for your location i can see your point how many company have websites in your location? and are you willing to relocate to chase this career decision?
Lots of questions to ask your self, i hope a solution comes of these questions.
I planned on working for myself but i discovered or guessed that i'll need to work under someone or a company to acquire the required experience and expertise: which is what am currently searching for and am yet to find.
For my location; not too many companies have a website, only the big companies do. I really don't mind relocating to pursue my dreams, just that my main problem would be finance.

I don't recommend web programming as a career. There is millions of web designers out there, both freelancers and companies. The market is low with all the competition. I tried it and couldn't get a job.
Use it as a side job or a hobby. There is classifieds on here for little projects that need help, you can pick up a little money there.
Plus you don't need school to learn how to use Javascript, PHP, HTML, etc. I am self taught, I bought a book, didn't understand it, I just download coding and play with it and learn it. Try buying a book and see if it helps.

I also think you have a great passion for web design. As everyone has advised is very clear. However I have an idea to suggest to you. Do you wish to establish a company in web design where you live. This is a way to bring success to you. But decision belong to you. I have a thought like you, I have previously built a website to share the knowledge: http://www.url.vn. The contents of the website was: Encyclopedias. And my idea has changed, starting from May 8/2010 I have moved to web design, and its contents are written in Vietnamese.
You can follow my way, only one different thing, that is the language of your content is Nigerian
This is just a suggestion for your reference
Good luck and success!
Lil_Kins0, there are a lot of online computer courses. And most of them are offered for free. For example, Coursera. It was formed by five big universities from America. An alternative though would be to look for scholarships either local or abroad.
