converting tiffs

hi everybody,
i have these scanned two color tiff files, about 30k each..
i want to use them on my web site, but when i try to convert them to jpg png or gif, file size is getting much much bigger..

is there a way to convert these files without loosing quality and without making the file size bigger?

I didn’t look at the files (can’t be bothered to download a ZIP file right now) but with which program are you trying to convert them?

i'm using irfanview for batch convertion

If you can't afford Adobe Photoshop, you can download the trial version (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/in...shop&loc=en_us) and do the following:

1.) Open the file in Photoshop
2.) Go to File > Save for Web Devices
3.) Select which file extension you want: .gif, .jpg, .png8, .png24
-You can select each one and look at the bottom left of the preview screen to see how big the file size is and choose the one that works for you
4.) Click the OK button
5.) Save the file to the folder of your choosing

IrfanView is IMO the best choice for conversion.

But your mission to get a file in another format, with a file size close to the size of a tiff is AFAIK impossible.

No format that I have heard of, comes even close, when it comes to file size.
