Advice in studying for a programming career

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on how go about a career change to computer programming. I'm aware that it will take time to study and learn. I am looking for advice on how to proceed. I have a few questions I'm hoping some of you can answer.

Is a certificate worth anything when looking for a programming job? And is it worth getting an Associates degree in computer science before going on to a B.S.? I can't afford to study full time. (Have a family and have to work too.) I would like to work my way up in studying while completing some kind of degree ASAP. Waiting to complete Bachelors degree will take to long.

Also, do people hire for entry lever jobs with just a certificate (if yes what type)? Or is an A.S. degree the minimum?

I'm aware that experience is important. But there is only one way to get that.

Any help and advice would really be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Programming career is not easy compare to the other career that is on demand. Any computer related course are highly demand nowadays. However, certificates when searching for programming job is highly needed. Some companies hire you without certificates but they are very strict on experienced.Several companies do not hire applicants who do not finished their Bachelors degree.
