Strange expanding/contracting buttons

Hi all,

I built this page - http://www.adriancamilleri.net/Doors/test.php - testing in Chrome. I have only now realized that in IE the buttons do this ugly expanding/contracting thing when you click on them. I cant work it out

Can anyone spot a solution?

Also, how can I make the number that appears when you click appear colored black and not greyed out?
