window.close() in IE 8 and IE 9

I am trying to execute a simple window.close function to be used in IE8 and IE9, and window.close() doesn't seem to be working. Are there any known fixes?

Thanks, but that does not seem to work. The code is being attached to a button in an Adobe Captivate file, and you can only attach the java through a Script Window. I'm not sure if this affects anything, but its worth mentioning.
