Welcome to the "Web Projects" forums. Before you post, make sure you've selected the correct category based on the size of your project (in US dollars), or whether it is a partnership or "looking for work" request instead. Observe the guidelines for this section:
To all thread starters, check your "pm" box for responses, as that's how bidders will be communicating with you mainly using. You can turn on new pm notification by going to "User CP"-> "Edit Options"-> "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages".
To respondents, avoid replying to a thread with a short generic response like "pm sent" as much as possible. It is pointless and clutters up the screen.
To respondents, don't reply to a work request with a summary of your resume. If you're not willing to spend the time to at least read the request and respond specifically to the request, then don't reply. The Web Projects forum isn't a place to get your resume/ portfolio posted on as many threads as possible, it's for the direct, human interaction between coder and client. Members who blanket the forums with their resume replies will be treated as spammers and banned.
To all thread starters, please update your thread's prefix to "resolved", when you've found a coder for your project or partnership (or wish to terminate the request). This is so coders don't waste time bidding on an invalid project. To do this, click on the "Edit" button under the first post of the thread, then the "Go Advanced" button. You have 14 days to update your thread's title.
I am currently in the market for a coder/programmer for a pet based site. A few things that the site would have are:
Pet Customization Abilities. This would essentially be something allowing a user the ability to change the color and minor edits on a premade base.
Forums Forums would include a set locked signature size, customizable human avatars, PMs, and minor BBCoding allowances. (Things like bold, size, color and underlining.)
Inventories The inventory would have either a preset grouping arrangement, or a customizable one. (The preset would be for a basic user, and the customizable one would be for a premium user)
Award Tracking As players achieve awards, it would reflect in an award page. Things like logging in a certain number of days, forum post counts, interacting with pets a number of times and more. There would be user and pet based awards/achievements.
Basic/Premium users There would be special perks for being a premium user. Special monthly items, additional pets, and page customization to name a few.
Site specific customization / user customization Site specific customization would be customizing from a group of preset items, or basic hex codes. User customization would be spaces where the user can customize profiles or personal information with either HTML, BBCode or CSS.
There are more things that would be needed, but this give an overall base and I hope describes the level of involvement needed.
I will be looking for someone who would be willing to dedicate time to not only get started, but to continue working once the site goes live.
As far as pay goes, I cannot give an amount currently. I will be advertising in other pet sites as well as start up sites for funding and donations. If you choose to stay as a permanent coder/programmer, you will be paid a percentage of the sites income. Regardless of whether you would like to stay and continue working on the site, payment will be discussed prior to my advertising for funds and donations.
Feel free to send me an e-mail at bffisme@gmail.com for a sketch up or more info!

As a programmer I'm not understanding why I would donate my time to your project; if I want to work for free I'll do it on my own projects, where I'll be able to keep 100% of what my projects earn. Where's the incentive to join your project? Do you have a business plan? Something written down that outlines how your website is going to generate income?
So far I'm still in the early workings of this idea. I have a good idea of what I want, but I'm really unsure what all is going to be required as I don't know the first thing about programming or coding.
As far as pay goes, it would not be for free. I would like to negotiate a price before we begin and I would begin working on funding and donations prior to getting started. As far as a business plan, it would be nice to find someone who would want to stay and work on the project, and they would receive payment.
It would be a site where certain aspects would be pay only, as well as have premium memberships that would generate a steady income once the site was up and running.
My plan is to advertise somewhere like indiegogo.com once I have a good idea what kind of funding I will be looking for. I'm also a member of other pet sites and would be advertising through those as well.

My guess is you are under-estimating how much time and effort is required to build a website such as you describe. You are likely looking at thousands of dollars to make it happen using a competent developer (and artist and designer).
I probably am underestimating the amount of coding that it will need. I really know nothing about that side of things.
As far as the art and design goes, however, I have people that can help with that. I really just need help getting a site that works.
I'm just looking for someone (or someones) who might be interested so we can go over what kind of costs would be needed to get something like this going. As I said, I don't think there will be much of an issue with getting donations and other funding. Not to mention I've been trying to save when I can for this as well. It's a dream that I am willing to work hard to see become a reality.
