Unhappy Terminated, need to upkeep skills

Hi everyone, great board, definitely the best I've seen so far.

Here's my problem. I've been terminated from my job back in January, and job market hasn't been good to C/C++ programmers (I've also done some Java, JS/CSS, and a bit of Python, and I'm okay with MySQL). So all the skill and knowledge I've amassed during my employment is getting rusty, and since I don't know anyone who needs help on any software project, I'm stuck doing nothing.

What can people recommend? I'd gladly join a project, but I don't know any, and at this point I'm ready to help to a random person asking for assistance with her software project.
