No wireless internet connection on laptop

Hello,

I was using my recent Dell Inspiron when suddenly my wireless internet lost connection to my Verizon modem. I tried troubleshooting it, but it could not find the problem.

The odd thing was that I am still able to print wireless from/ to my HP Envy printer.

Before I have to find an alternative (example; buy a wireless LAN connectivity receiver) I'm looking for ways to solve this problem. I am currently using a LAN cable.

I appreciate any help to this matter.

I suggest that you try to connect to another wireless router just to make sure that your laptop is ok.

If the first step is done successfully then the problem resides within the router.

So you can reset your router and/or restart.

In all cases you can try restarting your router before you even start the step 1.

Did you bring up the wireless wizard and try to set up a connection again? Might have to turn power off to modem and reboot laptop, then power up modem while LT is booting. Usually you can see options to get a new IP from the Network Icon in SysTray. The printer's address is different than what the modem would use.

I tried your advice, but it still will not connect to the modem. I believe it is the IP address/ Gateway address/ network protocol configuration, but I am not certain.

That's usually the problem I've encountered and why I suggested to turn off/on the modem and reboot the laptop. You could try the Wireless Setup Wizard or Netwrk Wizard to reestablish a connection. Windows usually has troubleshooting options where one of them is to try to repair the problem or to reset the IP.

Have you tried connecting to another wireless network?

Have you opened the router control panel from a computer that can connect to the router and checked what those values are set to there?

Have you opened the corresponding settings in the laptop and seen what is there?

If the error is in those settings then opening up those two options and comparing the values will soon identify the problem.

Well,

I checked the IP configuration and there was a message on command prompt saying "media disconnected." I think it could be an internal error, but I am not certain.

This is one of many sections:
Code:
Tunnel adapter isatap..{B8A45F...etc...}:
Media state. . . . . . . . . .: Media Disconnected
Connection-specific DNS suffix .:
There are many other selectors in the prompt responses, like the Ethernet Adapter and the wireless LAN adapter; at some point they will also say "media disconnected" (most are in above format).

Hi, It might be with your internet provider. Did you check with Verizon? I experienced this before, thought it was a problem with my laptop or the router, i powercycled both but still was unable to connect. I tried connecting to a wifi network (just went out to a 7-11 with a wifi setup) and was able to connect to the net. Try connecting to another wifi network and if that works, it's definitely with Verizon.

More on internet connectivity here.

Hope this helps.

Well, I figured out one solution: simply be patient and wait until the media thing reconnects. If it happens again then it must be either the computer, the isp, or the modem.

On my Dell laptops, function key two turns the wireless on/off.

First of all you need to check your verizon modem if there is any problem there. I have experienced the same problem. But I found problems in my laptop. You can check your laptop too for getting a clear conscious view about the problem.

I'll be planning to do that, but the ironic thing is that our business does computer help, and we fix problems. Anyways we'll have to figure the direct cause. In addition, there is a possibility that there can be a specialist that deals with this situation, and more likely to get help from there.
