Which CMS can do this (w/or w/o plugin) e-commerce related...

Hi there,

I'm looking to build a website for an e-commerce site that sells manufactured parts. They frequently get international orders and their current site just uses the PayPal shopping cart which can't calculate international shipping rates, so they have to calculate them, contact the customer, have the customer send more money, and then they can ship.

I was bemoaning this problem to another web designer friend and he said that he was sure there was a CMS out there that could handle it. The problem was, he didn't know which one(s).

So I ask you--do you know of a CMS that can do international shipping calculations, either natively or with a plugin? (and which plugin?) Someone suggested Joomla to me, but when I looked at their list of e-commerce plugins it was HUGE and none of them seemed to have anything in the descriptions about international shipping, so I don't know which, if any, of them could do it.

My hope is that someone here knows...?

I’d suggest a real e-commerce software. I know PrestaShop can do international shipping rates and most likely the other popular ones like Magento, OSCommerce, ZenCart, etc., too. And not only flat international rates but also weight based shipping rates, rates by different carriers, etc.

Wikipedia has an extensive list of comparison of shopping cart software and on opensourceCMS there are a few free e-commerce applications to compare and try.

Thanks for the tip and for the links. How do those integrate with a website--say I already have a CMS, would the e-commerce blend in? I'm going to check those out right now. I've been looking for quite a while off and on for something to do this.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately PrestaShop can ONLY do shipping based on price or weight. My client does flat rate shipping. Each item has a fixed shipping price, and if you buy multiple items, you pay the highest item's shipping rate, then $1 each for each additional item you buy. Then if it's international you have two flat rates to choose from: priority or express.

Any idea what might do that? PrestaShop is a no-go and I've already put probably 30-40 hours into trying to set it up :/

teedoff is on a distinguished road
Have you considered a third party cart solution lime mals-e or auctioninc?

Our company used auction inc and we do a ton of international shipping as well as domestic overnight priority and ground with UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS.
