recommended javascript development environment?

hi, im new to javascript, and programming on the whole, what software do you all use for composing code?

this seems to me like somewhat of a common question, but i did a search using the search function and couldnt find any threads on this. sorry if i was being inept and if this question really has been asked a lot before. in that case, help is still greatly appreciated though.

There are thousands of alternatives - generally the same editor you use to edit your HTML and CSS will also handle JavaScript.

If your computer is running Windows then you can use Notepad - although a better editor will add colour coding to your content making it easier to spot errors. Notepad++ is a free download that adds syntax colour coding support. CSE HTML Validator will as well and also adds a built in HTML validator.

Another worthwhile option is Coffee Cup HTML Editor.
