Sync website contents and directory structure of htdocs with hosting server

It is a pain in the backside maintaining a copy of your website contents on a local HD for testing purposes, because you have to manually synchronize the directory structure and files.

Is there a solution for automatic syncing of your local htdocs folder with the contents of your online hosting server?

Expressions Web, and I presume Dreamweaver, have a "synchronize web" button which will push out all local changes. That's about as automatic as I'd want.

I use Xaamp in conjunction with hand coding. Never really used Dreamweaver before. Any other suggestions?

Neither of those would be incompatible with using Dreamweaver. But it sounds like you may be looking for an ftp tool which can do the job. Filezilla is a common one, but I don't think it has that capacity (it will let you know which files - client or server, are newer, but I don't think it will automatically synch the two). Perhaps there are other ftp clients with the feature.

Still open to suggestions of an FTP uploader which is capable of syncing online and local contents.
