wordpress subscribe plugin

i'm looking for a plugin where i can allow visitors to my site to subscribe to posts in different categories.

for example, visitors A and B subscribe to posts in category Y. visitors C and D subscribe to posts in category Z.

The Subscribe2 plugin seems real good however that only gives the admin (me) the ability to remove certain categories from the notifications that go out. But I need to allow different people to only get notified about different categories.

I know this can be done with RSS feeds. However aren't people moving away from RSS feeds? Don't RSS feeds only get routed to the RSS feed subfolders of your inbox? I need these notifications to go straight to the inbox.

Please advise. thanks!
