Thanks. When you mentioned paths, I double checked mine. You were right.

Apparently, for some reason, in my flash movie I had to use the absolute path when calling the txt doc (the full url) even thought the txt doc was in the same directory as the swf on the server. those files were all together but the actual wordpress page was in a different directory. all in all, I got it working.
