That may well be, but do keep in mind that colors work totally different on clothing (such as a uniform) then they do on a screen: on clothing, depending on lighting conditions, shadows, creases and folds, etc. the basic colors can be seen in a myriad of shades. On a screen however, only the glaring base colors are shown.
With that in mind, I can't see any problem in using shades of the base colors to create a professional looking, visually appealing site while still honouring the Dawg color scheme!
