I don't but not every design needs to be a responsive design. Hence my advice being create a fixed width website using 960px which specially targets 1024px resolution and above.
If your trying to ridicule the 960px width then try elsewhere as it's used world-wide. There's not point teaching the OP responsive web design or targeting anything lower than desktop if the desktop design solution isn't mastered.
