return emailReg.test(email);.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.js"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#email').keyup(email_check);
});

function email_check(){
var email = $('#email').val();

var emailReg = /^([\w-\.]+@([\w-]+\.)+[\w-]{2,4})?$/;
return emailReg.test(email);

if(email == "" || email.length < 4){
$('#email').css('border', '3px #CCC solid');
$('#tick').hide();

jQuery.ajax({
   type: "POST",
