But you can easily override that by putting a width in the style of the <select>:
<select style="width: 200px;" ...>
(or, of course, use a CSS class).
Now the width will stay the same regardless of text content. CAUTION: It means that you may not be showing ALL the text. It really does cut the width off at what you specify.
