My question now, is there a way to retrieve folders/files from the old HD into the new HD? I'm asking around for some help with this before I take it to a tech shop and spend money to have it done for me. My only guess would be to just plug in the old HD into the new computer and just use it as a separate drive. Then just copy folders/files from the old HD into the new HD 'C'. Once finished, I can either keep using the old HD or just dispose of it. Would that work? If not, can someone please provide some tips on how this can be achieved? Thanks in advance.

there are many ways to do this. If you have an IDE or SATA type HDD then plug it with an external case(converter) which connects it like USB. Copy your data and folders in your current one..
The second way is to place this old one in your system, reinstall windows if you don't two drives.
Third, you can also use it as an internal drive as there are slots available within system to place a second hard drive..
Hope it works..
