What you should be able to do is instead of doing it over the flash object do it over a certain region which covers the flash object, that would work but it may not work 100% how you want it to...

a book is usually the best place to start but i recommend learning css aswell as this will be very beneficial and maybe a bit of java but books are usually the best place to start
