check $_GET isset then write it to variable? Please help

Hey guys I'm a php noob who's inherited this site and can't figure out how to check if the url has a variable in it, then set that variable as something else (sorry if the jargon's wrong)

2 sites to have pop-up on entry, then not show again

I'm making 2 sites and need a visitor who lands on the home page of either site to first be shown a page that shows a company introduction and 2 links at the bottom so they can choose which division...

I've got to code a form for smart phones that will take a users name and address.

Does anyone have any tips on where to start? I really need something that would work across most mobile browsers....
